Audio 

The XLS Base model delivers pristine sound with an AM/FM Stereo that includes an In-dash 6-disc Changer, Shock-Proof CD Memory Function, Title Display, 9 Speakers and Steering Wheel Controls. The XLS B Package adds further refinements with a premium JBL Synthesis Audio System, AM/FM Stereo Cassette, CD Autochanger, Digital Sound Processor (DSP), Radio Data System (RDS), an 8-channel Amplifier, 12 Speakers and a Rear Subwoofer. The C Package replaces the Cassette Player with the DVD Navigation System.

DVD Navigation System

The Avalon C Package offers an elegant state-of-the-art DVD-based navigation system with voice recognition. Both driver and front passenger can plot a course with the navigation system using an 8-way switch and scroll lever. The navigation controls have surface emitting illumination and hide away above the gated shifter. Maps, HVAC and select audio controls are shown on the seven-inch liquid crystal display (LCD).

Engine

Backed by the most powerful V6 in a North American Toyota, Avalon makes every cruise a pleasure - slipping through the elements with poise and precision. Finely tuned, fuel-efficient and far-advanced, Avalon is also one of the few vehicles in its class to be awarded an ULEV2 [Tier 2 Ultra Low Emission] rating.

Engine

Generating an impressive 268 horsepower and 248 lb/ft of torque, Avalon delivers power and performance in equal measure. Effortlessly accelerating from zero to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, the 3.5-litre, 24-valve V6 is equipped with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) for enviable high-speed torque, excellent fuel economy, and lower emissions.

Transmission

Avalon features a 5-speed Super ECT (electronically-controlled) automatic transmission. Super ECT allows the Engine Control Module (ECM) to manage shift decisions based on engine speed and load, so that shifting can be precise and seamless. The ECM also monitors throttle position, road speed, power requirements and operating temperature to efficiently direct gear selection and adjust shift points to driving demands. Think of it as electronic intuition.

Multi-Mode Shifting

The ease of an automatic with the excitement of a manual. Avalon's Sequential Multi-mode Shifting allows the driver to control gearshifts when desired.

Steering

Avalon's steering does it all. A Tilt-and-Telescopic Steering Column provides a multitude of adjustments for optimum driving comfort. At low engine speeds, Rack-and-Pinion Steering with Variable Assist is increased for tighter and more precise cornering. At higher engine speeds, assistance is reduced, improving road feel and control.

Suspension

Avalon's finely tuned front suspension features gas-filled MacPherson struts, Coil Springs, and a Stabilizer Bar. Refined rear suspension delivers Multi-Link Control Arms, gas-filled MacPherson Struts, Coil Springs and a Stabilizer Bar. Together they provide tight control, exceptional stability and ultra-smooth cornering for an exceptional ride.

Tires

Avalon sees to every refined detail. P215/55 R17 tires with 17-inch Aluminum Alloy Wheels improve control, steering response and handling.

Body Structure

Avalon's stylish body structure is strengthened to help meet the latest side impact standards, accounting for higher-riding vehicles such as SUVs. In the event of collision, reinforced members, pillars, panels and doors absorb impact energy, then distribute it around and away from the passenger cabin for enhanced impact protection.

Brakes

Avalon's Ventilated Font Discs and Solid Rear Discs are augmented by an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA). The ABS system helps maintain steering control during sudden stops by preventing brake lock-up. EBD optimizes braking pressure at each wheel to help minimize body dive or sway during hard braking and cornering, while BA automatically helps deliver maximum braking pressure if an emergency stopping situation is detected.

VSC & TRAC

Standard on Avalon, Avalon XLS, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) helps to detect and correct over- and under-steering. The VSC system integrates Traction Control (TRAC) to help limit rear wheel spin on slippery road surfaces.

Airbags

Avalon's Dual-stage Front Airbags are designed to deploy with the most appropriate amount of force - lower and less forceful in the event of a moderate collision; higher energy level for more severe impacts. Front Seat-mounted Side Airbags, built into the seat and not the door pillar for enhanced protection, have been designed to provide a greater coverage area. In addition, standard front and rear Side-curtain Airbags help provide protection for all passengers in side impacts. Avalon also features a driver's knee airbag as standard equipment.
